Plantation Bay, Mactan, Cebu- The 2011 Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group I relegation playoff between Chinese Taipei and the Philippines is knotted at 1-1 after the opening single matches.
Team skipper Cecil Mamiit dropped 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-7 (6), 3-6, decision against Taiwan‘s top tennis player Chen Ti. The Filipinos were able to equalize as double specialist Treat Conrad Huey scored a 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 sweep over Jimmy Wang.
The crucial doubles match will be held today while the reverse singles on Sunday. The winner of this tie will remain in Asia-Oceania Group I while the loser will be demoted to Group II.
