2015 World 10-Ball Championship: Kiamco advances to Round of 32

General Santos City – The knockout stages have started in the 2015 World 10-Ball Championship. Seven Filipinos so far moved closer to the title by winning their Round of 64 matches.  Among the winners is Cebuano cue artist Warren Kiamco who beat Karol Skowerski, 11-8. Other Filipino winners are Jundel Mazon, Baset Mapandi, Ruben Cuna, Johann Chua, Joseph Magpantay, and Raymund Faraon.

Notable Filipino losers in the Round of 64 are top contenders Dennis Orcollo, Django Bustamante, and Cebuano Gaga Gabica.

2012 WORLD 9 BALL CHAMPIONSHIP Round of 64 update: Reyes wins; Bustamante ousted

Twenty Four (24) of thirty-two (32) matches have been completed and 10 Filipinos have played in the round of 64 in the 2012 World 9-Ball Championship. Out of the 10, only 4 survived to continue to the next round of competitions.  The 4 winners so far are Dennis Orcullo, Lee Van Corteza, Cebuano Antonio Gabica, and living legend Efren “Bata” Reyes. Among the casualties are 2010 World 9 Ball Champ Francisco Bustamante and Carlo Biado. Bustamante lost to former World 9 Ball champ Chao Fong Pang of Taipei. Another Taipei bet Chang Jun Lin eliminated Joven Alba.

2012 World 9-Ball Championship Round of 64: Cebuano Israel Rota and Marlon Caneda are eliminated

The Filipino cue masters are off to a dismal start at the knockout phase of the World 9-Ball Championship. Only 1 of 3 Filipinos have won his Round of 64 match so far. Ten others will have a chance to redeem the campaign and qualify in the Round of 32 for higher prize money and greater glory.

Among those who lost in the Round of 64 is Cebuano Israel Rota. He lost to Han Hao Xiang of China, 8-11 in their Round of 64 match.  All in all, he won 2 matches and lost 2 matches before he was eliminated.  He lost to German Ralf Souquet in his opening game before booting out Lee Wan Su of Korea and David Anderson of Great Britain in succession. The other Filipino participant who got eliminated was Marlon Caneda, who lost to Nick Van Den Berg of Netherlands with a 6-11 score.  Marlon Caneda opened his campaign with a 9-6 win over  Francisco Diaz-Pizzaro of Spain. He lost his second match to countryman Lee Van Corteza before eliminating Ceri Worts.  The Top 64 finish of both players were worth $2,000.  The top prize of the competition is $40,000.

The only Filipino so far who is assured of a Top 32 slot is Dennis Orcollo.   Orcollo avenged his Day 3 defeat to Andrew Kong by beating the Hong Kong native 11-8 in their Round of 64 match.

World 9-Ball Championship 2012: 6 Filipinos including Cebuano Israel Rota survive Do or Die Day 4

Al Sadd Sports ClubDoha, Qatar– Six more Filipino cue artists enter the Round of 64 of the 2012 World 9-Ball Championship after surviving their final elimination games. The six will join the 7 others who qualified in Day 3. The Filipinos went 6-3 in Day 4 making. The win-loss record of Filipinos so far is 29-14 including 2 matches between compatriots. The Day 4 winners were Jundel Mazon, Elvis Casalsang, Marlon Caneda, Dennis Orcollo, Joven Alba, and Cebuano Israel Rota. Eliminated were Raymund Faraon, Vicente Loyme, and Ramil Gallego.  Faraon was beaten by Orcollo. The 3 Filipinos joined Oliver Medenilla who was eliminated in Day 2.

The 6 Day 4 qualifiers joins Efren “Bata” Reyes, Django Bustamante, Ronnie Alcano, Roberto Gomez, Lee Van Corteza, Carlo Biado, and Lapu-Lapu City’s Antonio Gabica.

Cebu-based Pulpul among the 9 Filipinos in the Round of 64 in World 8-Ball

Fujirah, UAE – After the group stages in the 2012 World 8-Ball Championships, there are only 64 players left that has a chance to grab 2012 title. Of the 64, nine of them are Filipinos. Among the 9 is Cebu-based Demosthenes “Plong-Plong” Pulpul.

Pulpul squeaked past Austria‘s Albin Ouschan, 7-6, in their elimination match to qualify for a spot in the knockout stages. He earlier downed Bahram Lofty of Denmark but lost to England‘s Mark Gray to set-up the do or die match against Ouschan.  He will be facing Hwang Yong for a slot in the round of 32.

The other Filipino qualifiers are Roberto Gomez, defending champion Dennis Orcollo, Carlo Biado, Lee Van Corteza, Elvis Calasang, Joven Alba, Raymund Faraon, and Elmer Haya.
