Philippine Military Academy Entrance Examinations set on August 2

Do you have dreams of becoming an officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines? The first phase of the stringent selection process of the Philippine Military Academy will be held on August 2 as the PMA will conduct their annual entrance examinations in 37 locations in the country.

To be part of the Class 2020, one must at least be 5’5″ in height, born between April 1, 1994 to April 1, 1999, Single and never been married, natural born-Filipino citizen, physically fit and of good moral character,at least high school graduate, and have no administrative or criminal case.  The applicants who passed in the entrance examinations will be officially received in the the country’s Top military school  in a path-taking ceremony and reception rites on April 1, 2016.

University of Cebu will join the Med School wars in Cebu

The University of Cebu is now accepting applicants for its School of Medicine that will open on June 2015. The first batch of UC’s Doctor of Medicine program will be taught be distinguished faculty members who are experienced in medical education and clinical practice.

The UC School of Medicine is affiliated with the St. Vincent General Hospital and the soon to open UC Medical Center (UCMed) at the Ouano Avenue, North Reclamation Area. The School of Medicine will have fully air-conditioned rooms, updated medical library and resource center, and complete learning and laboratory facilities.

Cebuanos and other non-Metro Manila applicants have until this Friday June 27, 2014 to complete their UPCAT application in order take this year’s UPCAT.

How to apply:

1 Obtain application forms through your authorized school representative, directly from the UP Office of Admissions in Diliman, from the Office of the University Registrar in a UP campus (UP Campus in Cebu is in Lahug, Cebu City) nearest you, or from the UPCAT website (

2 Carefully read the information and instructions in the GenInfo Bulletin.

3 Fill out UPCAT Form 1 (UPCAT Application for Freshman Admission).

4 Give UPCAT Form 2 (Secondary School Record) to your high school principal or school head. Only a duly authorized school official may fill out this form.

5 Pay the UPCAT Application Fee (see Sec. III. MODES OF PAYMENT) or prepare the originals and photocopies of the necessary documentary proof for exemption (see Sec. II.3.b Exempted).

 a. If paying thru LBP or PNB, accomplish 3 deposit slips and have them validated, then attach 1 validated slip to your application.

 b. If paying with MC/CC, attach the MC or CC (payable to UPCAT) to your application.

 c. If you are qualified for exemption, attach supporting documents (i.e. photocopies of the Income Tax Returns of earning members of your family, BIR Certification of Exemption, or certified Top Ten List) to your application.

6 Make sure you have all the requirements that must be submitted together with UPCAT Forms 1 and 2.

 a. Four recent and identical 2″x2″ photos;

 b. As required, a certified and signed legible photocopy of your Permanent Secondary School Record (F137) from schools attended other than your present school (if you are a transferee) or from your present school (if you needed more than 4 years to finish high school);

 c. If applicable, certification re CMG status from National Commission of Indigenous People (NCIP);

 d. Proof of payment of or Exemption from the UPCAT Application Fee (see Sec. IV.5, above); and

 e. A self-addressed stamped envelope or return courier service if the Test Permit is to be mailed back to you. Be sure to use your school address.

7 Submit the completed forms and all other required documents directly to the UP Office of Admissions, University of the Philippines, 1101 Diliman, Q.C. either through the authorized school (not a bank) representative or by mail. You can also submit your completed forms and all other required documents to selected regional UPCAT application filing centers in: UP Baguio, UP Cebu, UP Iloilo, UP Los Banos, UP Mindanao, UP Pampanga and UP Tacloban.

Announcements: PRC moves 2013 NLE to earlier dates

Citing lack of available classrooms on the original scheduled dates, the Professional Regulation Commission has moved this year’s two nursing licensure examinations (NLE) to earlier dates.  Both the July 2013 and December 2013 NLE were affected by  the announcement. Examinees must take note of the changes.

Due to typhoon Pablo, Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) has announced that they are canceling 46 flights for tomorrow, Wednesday Dec. 5, 2012. Here is the list of flights that are cancelled:

Marcelo Fernan Bridge repairs completed

Starting tomorrow, all 4 lanes of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge will be open to vehicles. The bridge connects Mactan Island to Cebu and it was built to ease the traffic from the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge. The repairs made PLD Construction, the constructor, was scheduled to be finished on August 30 and based on the Department of Public Works and Highways, the bridge are finished ahead schedule.  The swift repair is good news for Cebu especially that a major triathlon will be held on August 5.

Philippine Military Academy lowers Height Requirement

Now one will only need to be at least by 5 feet tall to enter the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).  PMA Superintendent Major General Nonato Peralta said that the move allows more people who dreamed to have a military career enter the service. A year ago, an applicant who were lower than  5’4″ for males and 5’2″ for females were rejected due to the height requirement. The 2013 batch will have plebes that will be shorter than the previous batches.

This year’s Philippine Military Academy Cadet Qualification Test (PMACQT) will be on August 26. Other requirements for admission are the following: Birth Certificate as only Natural-born Filipino citizens are admitted, physically fit and of good moral character, CENOMAR, high schoool diploma, NBI clearance as proof no criminal or administrative case.

Successful applicants will be guaranteed of a free college education with monthly salaries and allowances.  Upon graduation, a PMA cadet can start a progressive career in the different military branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant or its equivalent.

Tomorrow is the last day of the PAG-IBIG condonation program

Tomorrow, June 30 is the last for employers to avail of the Pag-Ibig penalty condonation program.  The program is for employers who failed to submit their employees’ membership contributions, and housing loan delinquent borrowers. The Pag-Ibig office in Cebu will open from 8 am to 5pm to accommodate  employers and employees who wish to avail of the program to avoid penalties, foreclosures, or lawsuits.
