Bagyong Chedeng: Maysak downgraded to Typhoon

Bagyong Chedeng (International Code: Maysak) has been downgraded to a typhoon from a super typhoon status in the past few days.  Chedeng entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility late last night.  The typhoon has weakened significantly in the past 24 hours after continuous entrainment of dry air.  It is expected to weaken further but it remains a threat to the coastal areas of the Bicol Region and the Eastern part of Luzon.

Bagyong Chedeng has slowed down a bit moving at a WNW direction at 14 kph.  It still pack winds of 205 kph near the center with gustiness reaching 250 kph.  As of 5 am, it was tracked to be 1,105 ESE of Virac, Catanduanes. The typhoon is expected to bring rains to the northern part of Luzon on Easter Sunday.

Residents of coastal areas and people who are planning to go the beach in the Eastern portion of Luzon are advised to continue monitoring the weather situation. PAGASA is expected to raise Public Storm Warning Signals later today.
