PBA Season 39: Fajardo is MVP while Slaughter bags ROY

PBA mythical team

Two former CESAFI stars bag major awards in the 2013-2014 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Leo Awards. San Miguel Center and former UC Webmaster Junemar Fajardo was adjudged Most Valuable Player (MVP) while Ginebra rookie and former UV Green Lancer Greg Slaughter became this season’s Rookie of the Year.  The two behemoths were in the season’s mythical team with Fajardo leading the first team and Slaughter in the 2nd team.

Fajardo’s season averages has vastly improved compared to his injury-riddled rookie campaign where he failed to bag the Rookie of the Year honours which went to Calvin Abueva of Alaska. His averages rose from 12.1 ppg, 9.3 rpg, and 1.2 bpg to 16.8 ppg, 14.1 rpg, and 2.0 bpg. The Kracken dominated the paint for San Miguel this season and he has been a double-double machine despite the presence of big and athletic imports. This year’s awards night really belonged to the former UC stalwart as he also grabbed the most improved player award and a spot in the all-defensive team.

Complete List of Awardees:

Most Valuable Player: Junemar Fajardo (16.8 points, 14.1 rebounds, 2.0 blocks)

Rookie of the Year: Greg Slaughter (14.6 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.4 blocks)

It was a fruitful campaign for both Cebuano big men.  Fajardo will now don the national colours for several important international competitions. Both Greg and Junemar will also try to earn their first ever PBA titles next season as this season was dominated by team’s sister team the San Mig Coffee Mixers.
